Children's Hospice Goes Around the World

Could your school help Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice go around the world?

Around the world sounds like a really long way, doesn’t it? But that’s how far Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice wants to travel in their biggest fundraising challenge ever. To go the distance, the charity is setting thousands of local children and people the challenge of travelling one or two miles during Children’s Hospice Week (21st-27th May) to raise money for children with life-shortening conditions and their families living in Bury, Rochdale and Oldham.

Forget Me Not trialled the Around the World challenge in West Yorkshire last year when more than 24,000 children raised an astonishing £92,000 by walking, running and wheeling a total of 24,900 miles.

Now that Grace’s Place, the charity’s new children’s hospice in Bury, has started caring for some of the 650 children with life-shortening conditions and their families living in North Manchester, ForgetMe Not is urging schools and youth organisations across our region to help it go Around the World again in 2018.

Helen Latham, senior fundraiser at Grace’s Place said:
“Until now, local children with life-shortening conditions and their families have had to struggle on alone. We’re changing that. But to be able to reach out to all the families that need our help, we need to raise lots of funds. And that’s where you come in! Going Around the World is a fantastic way for local children, families and schools to get involved, have fun, get moving and, most importantly, do something magical for children who live right here in Bury, Oldham and Rochdale!
All money raised in North Manchester will be used to support the children and families at Grace’s Place so the more schools that get involved the further we’ll go, the more we’ll raise and the more children with life-shortening conditions we’ll be able to say yes to.”

The Around the World challenge is a hugely significant part of Forget Me Not’s efforts to raise the £4 million it needs to run the charity each year. With just 4% of that provided by the government, the support and help of everyone in the community is vital.
